OBJECTIVE

Since I have such a broad array of technical experience, I am looking to lead and/or offer consulting to a team of IT professionals in a high paced, high performance environment.

EXPERIENCE

Linux Developer and Administrator to Manager. TN, June 2006 - Present
We have built from the ground up a mid-large enterprise. We embraced Open Source solutions where it made sense and commercial solutions where they did. We uses nearly every piece of popular open source program imaginable in some extent. Courier Imap was the original primary email server until we hit 500 or so users, then we began migrating to Zimbra for around 1500 accounts today. We went from 0% virtualized in '06 to roughly 80% 2 years later, and closer to 95% today. Today we house in the neighborhood of 450 servers, using Vmware ESX 4.1 and a Compellent SAN. Between, 2 EMCs, 2 Compellents and 2 Netapps, we house around 150TB of data counting the replicated data to a DR site. IT as a whole as made well over 100% efficiency improvements in the core piece of the business. Using the systems in place we have been able to process more than double the volume with less staff per volume ratio.

Web Advertising/Development. President, TN, 1998 - Present
I currently run companies to meet advertising and web present challenges companies and individuals have. Our area of expertise are mostly LAMP type installations with clients all over the US and beyond. Common services and technologies would include: Web development (apache, php) Automation (perl, bash), migrating between hosts (windows, linux), training (all topics). We also do optimizations such as: SEO, MySQL, OS hardening, and cross platform compatibility. (References and examples are available.)

Open Source Developer. Independent programming on a spam filter I have written from scratch in Linux/Freebsd C. I am the only developer in this project and proudly announced version 1.0 in February 2005. It uses many advanced techniques and designed for enterprise use with processing power of over 400 email/second. I have also written public patches for many open source products including vpopmail, qmail, qmail-scanner, SpamAssassin, rblsmtpd, ratbox, honeyd, bash, and a handful of others for special cases.

Systems Administrator to IT Manager. TN, Mar '01 - April '06
My primary job here was originally php development, mail administration and security for our datacenter's 37 servers, and the local office LAN of about 90 workstations but I have since been promoted to IT Manager. Our company has about 36 million members, in which I helped design part of the underlying structure. This system is design for high load consisting of fully redundant loadbalancers, webservers and databases servers.

Security Consulting. 2002-Present. Independent Network, Linux and FreeBSD security consultant for several ISPs and webhosting customers. My specialties include Firewalls, Honeypots, IDS, Spamtraps, Portscan Traps, Backdoor/Rootkit detection and removal. Also programming security: buffer overflow, stack/heap overflow prevention and SQL Injection prevention in Perl and PHP. I am also highly skilled in reverse engineering in both Linux and Windows which is extremely helpful in determining the damage a foreign binary has caused as well as altering binary programs in which you no longer have the source for.

Security Audits. 2005-Present. Independent Security consulting for ISPs and Financial institutes (including banks) in compliance with SOX in regards to IT. I generate reports outlining flaws and offering recommendations in Continuity, Disaster recovery, Risk Assessment, Backups, Network and System security. I also attempt Social engineering and outline guidelines that should be used in those type of scenarios.

Technician. TN, November 1999 - March 2001
I was the lead tech of pc repair as well as the systems administrator, but I occasionally configured Ciscos and designed/installed networks for companies.

Developer. TN, Jan 2004 - June 2004
I developed a proprietary spam/virus filter solution as well as a PHP frontend for this ISP.

Though I do not have thorough Cisco training, I have configured 875, 2500-2600 and configured null routes and SNMP network graphing. I have also designed network wide honeypots and snort that can talk to routers/firewalls to add null routes coming from spammers and attackers.

I've used several EMC products such as CLARiiON CX300, CX500, fiber switches, Netapp, Compellent, Datadomain, riverbed, juniper (EX, SRX, AS, space), Dell servers, workstations and switches.

DISASTER/RECOVERY

I have implemented many solutions to fit the size of the environment. We have installed replicated SANs with Compellent and netapp, offsite tape backups, replicated Datadomain dedupe appliances. I have experience with Commvault, BackupExec and Arkeia backup software as well as tar straight to tape.

REVERSE ENGINEERING

Crackingexperts.com, a small website I started to offer consulting for companies who made windows, linux, and unix based applications. I would disassemble a client's application and give them advice on protecting their software from crackers and assist in improving their key algorithms as well as make suggestions on existing market products. I had planned on selling my own polymorphic protection through this service, but eventually the time to profit ratio just wasn't good enough to make it worth my efforts. I do have extensive experience in Ida Pro, Softice, hexediting, asm, identifying poorly written code, and optimizing code through disassembly and assembler.

ENTREPRENEUR

I run several small companies on the side as a hobby and for business experience. Among those are silk-screening, webhosting, web application for real estate agents, consulting, and web development to name a few.

COMMUNITY

I believe in giving back to the community, both online and locally. Online: I have released countless patches, programs, hacks, scripts, etc. I help run online support networks for business, stock enthusiasts, and software development. Locally: I am active in our church (Treasurer, Security Team, sit on 2 boards). I lead a group of youths for AWANA. I help with local groups such as Lions Club, Computer Club, etc. I coach youth soccer. We started a private school which opened the doors in 2010 (I am currently the Chairman of the board.)

HOBBIES

Countless: Gardening (I grow bhut peppers, among many other things), picking locks, tinkering with things: small engines, whatever. I love to learn new stuff: make magazine, instructibles, etc.
